Born in Poznan, she studied vocal composition at the Poznan Academy of Music. Still as astudent, she won the Benson and Hedges Gold Award in the International Vocal Competition inLondon in 1984 and next year the second prize in a contest in Rio de Janeiro.After studies she was engaged at the Grand Theatre in Poznan, where she still performs. She isfrequently invited by renowned opera houses in Europe and America (Covent Garden, theVienna Staatsoper, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, La Scala, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, theDeutsche Oper in Berlin, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Chatelet in Paris, the GrandTheatre in Geneva, the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, the Los Angeles Music Center in New York and the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York). The singer's repertoire includes such roles as Liú in Turandot, Pamina in The Magic Flute, Marcellina in Fidelio, Donna Elvira and Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Tatiana in Eugene Onegin, Sandrina in The Feigned Gardener Girl, the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro and Mimi in La Boheme.

Besides opera Joanna Kozlowska sings oratorio and cantata music (soprano parts in Bach's both Passions and his Mass in B Minor, Requiem by Mozart, Petite messe solennelle by Rossini, Elijah by Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Symphony No. 3 by Gorecki and the series of songs Les nuits d'ete by Berlioz). The artist has also made several album recordings (the role of Sandrina in The Feigned Gardener Girl, also in a video version for Ricercar); the Symphony No.3 by Gorecki with the Warsaw Philharmonic under Kazimierz Kord (for Philips); Chopin's songs with the accompaniment of Waldemar Malicki).

In the near future the artist plans to sing at the Opernhaus Zürich (Tamara in Demon by A. Rubinstein), at the Cologne Oper der Stadt (Alice in Falstaff by Verdi), in Zagreb and Ljubljana (Leonora in Il trovatore by Verdi). At present Joanna Kozlowska studies singing with Irena Galuszko from Wroclaw.
