Mark Caudle

Mark Caudle, born near London in 1953, has been a central participant in the revival of early performance practice in England, and more recently in Poland, for 25 years. He has been invited to lead cello sections or play continuo, solos or consort music on viola da gamba by nearly all the ensembles in London. He has been principal cellist in the ensembles of Hogwood, Gardiner, Christophers, Parrott and Holman and played continuo viol on recordings by Parrott, King and solo viol on recordings with Peter Holman's group, The Parley of Instruments and consort music with the English Consort of Viols, The Consort of Musicke and the Rose Consort. In all at least 150 recordings (more than 50 for "Hyperion") and many tours, festivals and radio broadcasts around the world. He has taught baroque cello and viola da gamba at the Royal College of Music in London. In Poland he works with L'Arte dei Suonatori and Concerto Polacco, and plays recitals with Marek Toporowski and several other harpsichordists. He spends most of his time now in Poland, but is frequently invited back to perform in England. This year he has played with the Gabrieli Consort, The Academy of Ancient Music, The Parley of Instruments, Canzona and English National Opera and has been invited to direct concerts of German 17th Century music in Geneva and to teach and play a recital of music by Marin Marais in Cambridge.
