Philharmonia Quartett Berlin
< >

"They have set a standard for quartets", wrote an American critic during their first tour in the USA. "The best four", said a title in the London press. "Top-flight ensemble", announced Chicago Tribune. "Celestial playing and heart-melting sound", summarized the Boston Globe. Philharmonia Quartett Berlin belongs to the elite of string quartets. It consists of prominent musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic and the current list of players has not changed since 1985. Its repertoire comprises about a hundred quartets and covers the period from the Viennese classicism to the present time. During every season the quartet gives several dozen concerts in Germany and abroad (including regular yearly performances in leading American concert halls). Apart from that the musicians appear regularly in the Berlin Philharmonic. The quartet has recorded about a dozen albums and has won the coveted German Critics' Award twice (for its interpretation of Max Reger's Quartet in D Minor Op. 74 and for Shostakovich's Quartets). The group is led by Daniel Stabrawa of the Berlin Philharmonic, a successful soloist, chamber musician and conductor. His interpretation of Szymanowski's 1st Concerto with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall met with an enthusiastic reception. The second violinist is Christian Stadelmann, who leads the second violins in the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Neithard Resa plays viola and Jan Diesselhorst, who has been with the Berlin Philharmonic for 20 years, plays cello. All the members of the quartet are active soloists and give master classes at music centres throughout the world.
